What Pendo pricing actually does

Pendo has no public rate card. Pricing is quoted on monthly active users, shaped by which modules you take and how the negotiation goes, and the bundle of guides plus analytics is quoted as one number. That opacity is not an accident, it is the pricing strategy; your counter-strategy is making the quote decomposable and comparable before you anchor on it.

The model

The meter is monthly active users
Cost scales with how many people use your product, not with events or sessions. Efficient for high-engagement small user bases, expensive for large consumer-scale ones.
The bundle is the unit of sale
Guides, analytics, feedback and roadmap modules are quoted together. Which modules drive the price is exactly the thing the single number conceals.
The free tier is a doorway
A capped free plan exists for small MAU counts; its purpose is to seed the upgrade conversation once guides are embedded in onboarding.

Where the bill jumps

Not list prices, which change; the mechanisms that move them, which do not.

User growth: MAU pricing bills your product’s success directly, including free-tier users of your own product who generate no revenue for you.

The second module: adding feedback or roadmap re-opens the quote, and the delta is rarely proportional to the module.

Renewal: with guides woven into onboarding, switching cost is at its maximum, which is precisely when the renewal price is set.

Ask before signing

  • The quote split by module: what does the analytics half cost alone? This one question makes the bundle comparable.
  • How are MAUs counted: all users, or active-in-Pendo-instrumented-areas? Anonymous visitors included?
  • A written renewal ceiling at your projected MAU growth, before signature, while leverage exists.
  • What survives a downgrade: do published guides keep working on a lower tier?

Ours, for the record: one meter, public prices

Free to 100,000 events a month with nothing gated. Growth is $99/month for 500,000 events, Silver $299/month for 2 million. The whole ladder is on the pricing page, which is the point.

Questions

How much does Pendo cost?
There is no public price to quote, which is itself the answer: expect an enterprise sales cycle and a quote calibrated to your size. Public reference points from buyers put entry contracts in the tens of thousands per year, varying widely by MAU and modules; treat any specific figure you read as an anecdote, not a rate card.
How does KISSmetrics pricing compare?
It is the analytics half of what Pendo bundles, priced publicly: free to 100,000 events a month, $99/month for 500,000, $299/month for 2 million. No MAU meter and no quote cycle. If guides are what you need, pair a dedicated onboarding tool with it and you have decomposed the bundle.
Is MAU pricing better than event pricing?
It is a different bet. MAU pricing is kind to chatty products with few users and harsh on big audiences with light engagement; event pricing is the reverse. Price both models against your real usage shape before deciding which meter you would rather grow into.
